Algeria celebrates today May 27th, 2024 the “National Algerian Muslim Scout Day”, under the slogan "a school for patriotism" to commemorate the role of the Algerian Muslim Scouts in the struggle for national liberation, and its importance on raising the awarness of young people.
This date coincides with the 83nd anniversary of the brutal execution, in 1941 in Algiers, by French colonial forces, of the martyr “Mohamed Bouras”, the founder of Algerian Muslim Scout, who dedicated his life to disseminate the values of struggle, rigor and discipline among the Algerian Muslim Scouts.
The Organization of Algerian Muslim Scouts was created in 1935 by the late Mohamed Bouras, under the name «El Falah». Four years later it became known as the Federation of Algerian Muslim Scouts.
The Algerian Muslim Scouts Organization is a real school that instills in Algerian children and young adults, patriotic spirit and solidarity by strengthening social cohesion, anchoring citizenship, developing the skills of young people and encouraging volunteering and social assistance.
It has forged the personality of many freedom fighter inside the National Movement, who were at the forefront of the liberation struggle, which was unleashed on November 1, 1954. Larbi Ben M'hidi, Ahmed Zabana, Didouche Mourad, Badji Mokhtar, Souidani Boudjemaa, Zighoud Youcef, M'hamed Bougara, Hamou Boutlelis, Debbih Cherif and many other martyrs have drawn their strength from the Algerian Muslim Scouts Organization.
The Council of Ministers has adopted on April 18, 2021, the decision of the President of the Republic to institute May 27 as a the «National Day of Algerian Muslim Scouts », with the aim to preserve the National Memory and to strengthen national solidarity, with the will of the State to develop the voluntary education movement that instills the spirit of generosity and leadership.
Nowadays, the organization of Algerian Muslim Scouts plays a crucial role in preserving the National Memory for the benefit of the younger generations, and participates in the common effort of national solidarity toward the vulnerable groups in society, especially in the field of prevention and fight against social scourges such as drug addiction and smoking, the protection of the environment and public health.
