Under the slogan "Immigration day: Preserving the memory... Consolidating the spirit of belonging”, the Ambassador of Algeria to the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Albania, Mr. Mahieddine Djeffal commemorated together with the Embassy staff and representatives of the National community in Greece the 62nd anniversary of the Immigration Day to pay tribute to the Algerian emigrants who, on October 17, 1961, fell victims on the streets of the French capital to the massacres committed by the French police against the Algerian demonstrators who peacefully expressed their support for their homeland’s liberation struggle and their solidarity with their brothers in Algeria who were fighting to free the country from the grip of colonialism.
After observing a minute of silence and reciting the Fatiha in memory of the victims of these massacres, the participants heard a brief presentation in which the importance of this painful stage in the Algerian liberation struggle was underlined and the need for the Algerians inside and outside the country to maintain alive through the generations the Memory of the sacrifices of our valiant chouhada to allow Algeria to recover its independence and regain its sovereignty has been reaffirmed.
